Event Information

‘Snacky Tunes Live’ Featuring NIIA and Wexler’s Deli at the El Rey Theatre

Live audience recording of award-winning podcast features interviews, food and music

Finger on the Pulse and Goldenvoice team up to present a live show recording of the award-winning podcast, Snacky Tunes, on March 13, 2018, at Los Angeles’ famed El Rey Theatre. The evening will feature an interview and an intimate performance by soul singer-songwriter, NIIA, interview and food from Chef Micah Wexler and Michael Kassar of Wexler’s Deli, and a DJ set from Them Jeans. Tickets for the show are $30 and include a plate of food. For tickets, visit: bit.do/snackytuneslive

Now in its 10th season, Snacky Tunes was founded by identical twin brothers and co-hosts, Darin and Greg Bresnitz. The podcast explores and celebrates the cultural confluence of music and food, and has played host to some the world’s top culinary and indie music talents. Over the years, the show’s guests have included Chefs Massimo Bottura, Curtis Stone, Niki Nakayama and Wolfgang Puck, along with musicians Au Revoir Simone, Porches and Blood Orange. Snacky Tunes broadcasts weekly on Sundays on the Heritage Radio Network.

A prodigious musician with jazz vocal training, Atlantic recording artist NIIA has spent the last eight years charting a path towards her 2017 debut album, I, which was launched to critical acclaim including being named one of the best albums of the year by the New York Times. After a guest vocal spot on Wyclef Jean's "Sweetest Girl" back in 2007 and years of establishing herself amongst the NYC underground scene with performances at Sleep No More, 2014 saw the release of her EP, Generation Blue—a slinky, full-bodied collection of smooth pop. KCRW-FM’s renowned music show, “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” called Generation Blue “astonishing,” and marked both its release and I’s with live in-studio performances from NIIA.

From the duo of Chef Micah Wexler and partner Michael Kassar, the acclaimed Wexler’s Deli aims to take the traditional deli back to its roots and provide a place of community, pride, familiarity and quality. Born of a desire to serve classic Jewish deli food made by people who care, the menu features traditional deli favorites all cured and smoked in-house using old-school methods. Following the April 2014 debut of Wexler's in Downtown L.A.'s Grand Central Market—which drew wide praise from media and diners alike—the team opened their second location in Santa Monica in May of 2016, and their third location in Westfield Century City in September 2017.

Them Jeans, a.k.a. Jason Stewart, is a DJ from Los Angeles who started the infamous Cinespace Tuesday night parties. Since then he’s toured all over the world, done a lot of remixes and now hosts and produces the popular Tall Tales podcast, and the food podcast, The Stew.
